The Process
Colours

The Craft of Stained Glass making has little changed over hundreds of years , its origins lie in the requirement to illustrate passages of the Bible to illiterate members of the Church congregation . The design and manufacture remains pretty much the same , only the tools may have improved , but they themselves are no substitute for quality craftsmanship .

 

The Glass is cut directly over a template , which is the full scale design of the window . Care will be taken to number each piece correspondingly, which will help easily identify them .

The Glass pieces are then leaded together a bit like a large jigsaw . Where the Leads meet at each junction they are soldered together. When the Panel is completely soldered , The work is then  cemented , which goes in between the Glass and the Lead to secure the whole piece, making it waterproof .

We have a large collection of traditional Designs for you to chose from . You may like two or more of these for example ,we can adapt any Design  reducing or enlarging certain features to produce eye catching dynamic designs that look aesthetically pleasing .

 

If you are still undecided on a Design that you like, we can provide you with three scale drawings , where colour schemes can be used to illustrate how the same design can differ by the use of colour. This will give you an idea of how your Windows may look .

Other than the  lead line which is the actual Design of the Glass Panel , from which the glass is cut , the other way to achieve your required effect , is of course through the use of colour .

 

First amongst your considerations should be does the door/ window get a lot of light? If the answer is no , then we suggest that a palette of pale colours should be used .

Also the amount of texture and opacity will directly affect how much privacy the windows affords .
